The paper deals with the results of investigation of three different tillage systems: conventional tillage, mulch tillage and no tillage and herbicide application: (Acetochlor+Dichlormid)+Atrazine, Rimsulphuron, Nicosulphuron on maize grain yield under continuous cropping. At the location of Stari Tamis near Pancevo, Serbia (Yugoslavia) on the chernozem soil type, extreme soil compaction have appointed in deeper top soil layers under conventional and on the layer 10-25 cm of depth under mulch tillage systems, as well as better soil moisture conditions under examined conservation tillage practices. Significant differences in analyzed grain yield were appointed. The highest yield was obtained on the plots following mulch tillage, which was significantly higher regarding maize yield on no-tillage system. Without practicing chemical control of weeds significant yield decrease was obtained in both years of examination.
