In order to comprehend the link between the litter decomposition process and the formation of humus on the one hand, and the complex processes of transformation and disintegration of organic matter on the other, the time and space dynamics of humus content of the distric cambisol was analysed in the sessile-flowered oak forest Quercetum montanum (B.Jov.1996), Cer. et Jov., 1953, the mountainous beech forest of Fagetum montanum serbicum, B.Jov. (1953)., non Rud. (1940) and the forest culture of the Weymounth pine Pinus strobus L., raised 25 years ago on a beech forest habitat. The largest humus content was found in the beech forest, than the oak forest and finally least in the pine culture. Time analysis of humus content proved that its dynamics had no statistical value, which is in turn associated to the fact that humus content is bound and difficult to change in specific bioclimatic conditions, except for the culture of the Weymounth pine where this is the case only in the 0-10 cm deep soil layer. This indicates that there exists a somewhat higher humification level in this culture compared to the other studied areas.
