The possibility for substitution of fish meal with fresh Californian worms and the effect of so prepared diet on performance characteristics of quail layers was investigated in a trial based on group-control system in large scale conditions. There were totally 104 quails in the trial. Birds were divided into four groups. Feed mashes for control group feeding were of standard material composition that according to their chemical composition satisfied the requirements of this category. The content of fish meal was reduced in trial mashes as follows: 0-1 by 50%; 0-2 by 75% and 0-3 without fish meal. The quails in trial group were fed worms ad libitum. Performance results and health state were observed during the trial.
