Regional hydrogeological investigations were conducted for the design of the "New General Water Supply System for the Srem Region (Serbia, Yugoslavia)", comprising the analyses of the available documentation on investigations in last 50 years. The purpose of the study was to assess the main hydrogeological properties of the various aquifers in order to define the condition and possibility of providing water for irrigation, regional, local and industrial water supply. On the ground of the detailed study of over 140 published and archival documents, a cadastre was compiled over a territory of 5,500 square kilometers, comprising data about over 1,300 hydraulic engineering structures and relevant investigation. On the ground of this study, the aquifers of significance for regional and local water supply could be mapped and represented by profiles till the depth of 300 meters. Particular attention was given to the determination of the groundwater regime of the top aquifer, of interest for irrigation. The paper describes the hydrodynamic modelling of the present condition of that aquifer, as well as under conditions of controlled irrigation.
