Nitrate content of Amaranthus species

Changes in crude protein and NO3 content of the green parts of 3 Amaranthus species (A. caudatus, hypochondriacus and retroflexus) as a result of provocative N-fertilization (400 kg/ha) were studied for 2 years. Samples were taken from the green plants in 1992 on the 54th and 70th days after sowing, a in 1993 on the 44th, 72th and 89th days. Both years were dry, but irrigation was applied only in 1993, therefore the effectiveness of fertilization was obviously different in these two years. N-fertilization strongly increased the crude protein the samples, but the time of sampling and species also affected it them.
