Olaquindox toxicity in piglets
1998
Benda, T. | Salyi, G. | Glavits, R. | Cseplo, A.
On a 480-sow pig farm a premix containing 1% olaquindox was used to treat and prevent intestinal diseases in weaned piglets. Estimated amounts of the preparation were sprinkled over the feed for several weeks and exact quantities of olaquindox taken by the piglets was not known. At 2-3 weeks after weaning most piglets showed inappetence, lack of weight gain and cachexia, dehydration, berry-like faeces, pica, urine-drinking, cannibalism, anaemia, muscle tremor, and weakness of the hind quarters; they became recumbent after which they died within a couple of days.
