Combining ability of highland rice
1997
Zen, S. (Balai Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian Sukarami, Padang (Indonesia)) | Bahar, H.
Six varieties of highland rice were crossed in a diallel mating design to evaluate the magnitude of general and specific combining ability for plant characters and yield. The experiment was conducted at Sukarami Experiment Station (920 m above sea level). The treatments were arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. Results of the experiment indicated that the variances of general and specific combining abilities (GCA and SCA) were significant for all characters except SCA for number of spikelet per panicle. GCA variances were greater than SCA variances assumed that additive gen action predominantly controlled those characters. Varieties Putih Tawe, Siramos, Batang Sumani and JKU 343 were the good general combiner for grain yield and yield components. Varieties IR72 and Jangkok were the good general combiner for early maturity
