An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of cutting leaves of rice (Oryza sativa) on quality of its rice straw. Cutting of rice leaves conducted at growing period (vegetative state) and allowed to grow to produce rice paddy and rice straw. The experiment was arranged in factorial model 4 x 4 with 4 replications in completely randomized design. Factor A was time of cutting that is 30, 35, 40 and 45 days after transplanting, and factor B was height of cutting that is 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm from the soil. The parameters measured were crude protein, neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and lignin content of rice straw. The result of experiment showed that there is interaction between factor A and factor B on crude protein, NDF, ADF and lignin content of rice straw. The experiment indicated that increased time of cutting caused decreased (P less than 0.05) on crude protein content but increased level of NDF and ADF composition. The best treatment for the quality of rice straw was at cutting at height of 25 cm from the soil with time of cutting 30 days after transplanting
