Effects of crown budding on technical properties of rubber clone GT1

Research with the aim to study the effect of crown budding on several technical properties of rubber: plasticity retention index, total solid content, and dry rubber content, was carried out at Sembawa Research Station, Palembang. A Randomized Complete Block Design with eight treatments and three replications was used in this study. The treatment included seven serial clones of FX 25, FX 360, FX 516, FX 664, FX 636, FX 516, FX 2831, FX 4421, as crowns. Rubber clone GT1 (without crown budding) was used as control treatment. The result showed that crown budding of clones FX on clone GT1 did not adversely affect the rubber plasticity and plasticity retention index. Therefore, the latex meets the quality requirement for rubber products of SIR 1998. Crown of serial clones FX might change the colour of latex from white to grey, although the latex could be processed into products of Ribbed Smoke Sheet (RSS), SIR 3L, or concentrated latex, with the addition of whitener chemical substance
