[Rational application of composting]

The given work is devoted to the application of organic fertilizers (composts in particular) with the aim of combating the degradation of land, air and water. The decrease of the organic matter content in Latvian soils is explained. The necessity to improve the situation is emphasized. The following issues of the problem are discussed: the value of organic fertilizers including biomass composts, the main biomass resources in Latvia, composting technologies and their energo-effectivity.
