Since 1996 the data of coastline changes have been collected by the newly established Sea Coast Laboratory of the Geography and Earth Sciences Faculty of the Latvia University. The measuring grid covering the Latvian coast is densified by new measuring stations that apply traditional methods. For the first time GIS - supported methods are being developed for Latvia systematically record, classify and analyse the morphographic changes on the accumulative coasts. The geographical information systems ARC/INFO and Arc View were used with appropriate coding modifications to analyse the data. The methods here described were developed and tested with data acquired from the station Jurmala (from Asari to Lielupe) covering a 12-year period. Subsequently these methods were used to process the data from all 30 stations.
