The objective of the study was to assess the influence of different dietary carbohydrates on the population of Oesophagostomum dentatum in the gastrointestinal tract of pigs. Sixty four worm-free pigs from a specific pathogen-free farm were randomly divided into eight groups of eight animals in each. The composition of the animals' diet and the way of their feeding are described. The inoculation of 48 pigs in 6 experimental groups with 6,000 infective L3 stage larvae of Oesophagostomum dentatum is explained and the following procedure of the experiment is described. There were no clinical signs of parasitism in any of the pigs during the experiment. The experimental results show that there is a significant influence of insoluble carbohydrates on the establishment, persistance and localisation of already established Oesophagostomum dentatum infection.
