The vegetation of Mt. Labo, Camarines Norte [east slope and within the Philippine National Oil Corporation (PNOC) Geothermal Power Project Area] is a mosaic of five different forest types. These five forest types are: (1) lowland dipterocarp forest; (2) mixed broadleafed-dipterocarp forest; (3) mixed broadleafed almaciga (Agathis philippinensis) forest; (4) upper dipterocarp-midmontane forest, and (5) mossy or cloud forest. The difference in forest physiognomy is principally attributed to the inherent effects of soil types, altitude and variation in moisture distribution. The flora of the eastern portion of Mt. Labo is composed of 385 species distributed in 255 genera and 112 families. Of the total number of species, there exist only 8 major timber-producing species, i.e. seven dipterocarp or "Philippine mahogany" species and one conifer species
