Declining proportion of stumpage price to wholesale price of domestic wood in Japan caused difficult maximization of wood utilization from the forest. On the other hand, reforestation of harvested forest area is costly, in weeding and land preparation, particuarly. For this reason, the forest owners seek other non-wood alternative income from their land. Combination of crop cultivation and reforestation activities (called as Yakihata Ringyo in Japanese) arranged together by Forest Agency, forest owner, private company and Forest Development Corporation of Japan was possible to be applied. Research site covers Takahagi, Tsuruoka, Kawazu, and Nango forest areas in Japan. Economic valuation showed these activities reduced the weeding and land preparation cost in the reforestation stage and feasible for revenue cost (R/C) ration analysis. Products of crop cultivation has some quality advantages such as higher vitamin C content, higher sweetness level, and lower oxalic acid content comparing to the ordinary agricultural products. Extension of Yakihata Ringyo practices is needed in order to increase the forest utilization
