The creation of EEZ [Exclusive Economic Zones] and UNCLOS [UN Convention on the Law of the Sea], and availability of technology, have enabled developing countries to exert a greater claim over world fisheries expanding their fishing capacity and fish production. Globalization and expansion of markets have brought new attention to fisheries. These developments warrant research to focus on policies for integrating fisheries issues into intersectoral policies and assess the role of fisheries in food and nutritional security in the developing countries
