Studies on the growth and eco-physiological responses of the agarophyte, Gelidiella acerossa for the development of its mariculture technology
1999
Fortes, E.G. (Philippines Univ. Diliman, Diliman, Quezon City (Philippines). Marine Science Inst.)
Various experimental procedures to monitor responses of the red seaweed, Gelidiella acerosa, a source of high quality agar, were conducted. The project aimed to determine the optimum conditions for the culture of the species, specifically to determine: 1) the regenerative capacity of the various branch cuttings; 2) the frequency and duration of nutrient pulse-feeding applications for optimum growth of cuttings; 3) effects of combination of ecological factors - temperature, salinity, light and water movement to growth of cuttings; and 4) the photosynthetic and respiratory responses of the cuttings to variations in salinity and temperature
