In a field trial, oil cakes of castor, neem, groundnut, mustard, rocket salad and two nematicide viz., carbofuran and aldicarb were found to be highly efficacious against commonly occurring plant parasitic nematodes on eggplant cv. Pusa purple long. Nematicide showed better results than oil-cakes. Compost on the other hand gave poor results. As a consequence of nematode suppression plant growth of eggplant improved. The efficacy of these treatments was enhanced in deep ploughed (40cm) beds as compared to normal ploughed (20cm) beds. The beneficial effects of all the above treatments persisted even in the subsequent crop of tomato cv. Pusa ruby.
