This short communication reports on ethylene measured in canopies of rice cultivars, IR72 and NPT, grown inside open top field chambers. Enrichment of CO2 or high temperature tended to increase ethylene emission by the plants at tillering and booting. During the flowering stage, ethylene levels were found to almost double regardless of treatments. Elevated CO2 and/or high temperature that resulted in altered or modified ethylene production by CO2-enriched plants under the present system indicate that ethylene production in plant canopies under similar experimental set-up can be quantified. Hence, it can relate ethylene releases to some developmental responses in CO2-enriched grown plants
