Effect of weedicide "Afalon" on character association in Brassica juncea and Eruca sativa L.

A weedicide, Afalon, was tested on three Brassica juncea and one Eruca sativa L. varieties following RCB design. Data on plant height, number of branches, siliqua per plant and number of grains per siliqua along with seed yield per plant were recorded and statistically analyzed. There were significant differences among varieties. However, pooled ANOVA revealed that treatments were highly significant except for plant height and number of branches per plant. Interactions between varieties and treatments were also significant except for number of branches per plant and grains per siliqua. Seed yield per plant was positively associated with all the traits in all the varieties in control as well as treated plants except for variety Poorbi Raya where grains per siliqua displayed non-significant association with seed yield per plant in treated plants. Almost 73% variation in control and 98% variation in treated plants could be accredited due to the influence off our independent enables in seed yield per plant. Partial regression and path coefficient analysis had confirmed that number of siliqua per plant displayed maximum influence by contributing 88% and 76% variation directly towards seed yield per plant in control and treated plants respectively. Weedicide had substantial influence throughout the growth period of these varieties. Hence the use of Afalon is not recommended.
