Profile differentiation of total mercury content in selected arable and forest soils in Poland

The distribution of total Hg content was studied in seven typical soil profiles of arable and forest soils. The highest concentration was detected in the organic horizon of forest soil. The total content of mercury in soils from the vicinity of "Wloclawek" Nitrogen Works exceeded the natural level. A significant positive correlation was found between the total mercury and organic carbon contents and cation exchange capacity
