Improvement in the milk yield of black pied cattle as a result of crossbreeding with Holstein-Friesian
1998
The milk yield per cow has large impact on the economic situation of farm. This is possible by using specialized breeds such as Holstein-Friesian. The farmer can use the pure breed HF or crossbreeding with HF. Experiments of "Landesforschungsanstalt Mecklenburg-Vorpommen" have been shown that crossbred cows yield more milk but have less fat and protein content. If the genetic share of HF gets up to 50 percent or to 75 percent then the milk yield is rising to 4 percent or 14 percent respectively. Better yields is to expected if the environment is excellent. It was shown by results obtained from the herd of the Research Institute for Biology of Farm Animals at Dummerstorf, that the genetic development and an improvement in the environment have to change in the same time
