[On the appearance of a mycosis in Phoracantha semipunctata (Fab.) larva]

A fungus identified as Hirsutella stylophora Mains was isolated from Phoracantha semipunctata (Fab.) larvae and its microscopic and macroscopic morphological characteristics are described. As Hirsutella spp. is referred in literature as being pathogenic to coleoptera we suggest that this isolation could eventualy be useful as a means of controlling this pest. Further studies are needed based on cultures maintained in the mycotec of the Forest Protection Department of Estacao Florestal Nacional
