The Zemplinska Sirava reservoir[Slovak Republic] is poorly-stratified and partially polymictic with episodic anoxia in water layers close to bottom depending on the wind duration. After 35 years of operation the reservoir can be classified as poorly transparent (40-45 cm) and eutrophic, where eutrophy is limited by nitrogen (mean N/P ratio: 8.46; mean summer concentration of total phosphorus 0.09 mg/L) in 1997-1999. Mean chlorophyll-a concentration (14.49 micro g/L) was low during 1997-1999 but the range of inter-seasonal mean concentrations of chlorophyll-a was broad: 10.68 micro g/L (1997), 8.80 micro g/L (1998), 21.0 micro g/L (1999). Mean seasonal zooplankton wet biomass also varied: 4309.89 micro g/L (1998) and 1783.08 micro g/L (1999). Fourteen cladocerans, 5 copepods and 16 rotifers were recorded in the pelagial zooplankton. Only two new cladocerans (Bosmina coregoni and Diaphanosoma lacustris) were found for the first time during the 35-year existence of the reservoir
