Effect of additional feeding with rye - grass silage on pasture herbage intake and nutrient digestibility in feed ration in grazed dairy cows

The effect of additional feeding with rye-grass silage on pasture herbage intake and nutrient digestibility in feed ration was studied in grazed dairy cows. There were 18 cows of Pinzgau breed divide into three groups of 6 cows in the experiment. The first group did not get the silage, the second got 2 kg and the third 4 kg dry matter of rye-grass silage daily. The dairy cows were given fodder concentrates according to the efficiency. The real intake of forage (tab. 3) exceeded the calculated capacity of dry matter intake in first group by 13.6 - 17.67%, in second group by 16.98 - 23.07%, and in the third group by 10.16 - 28.5%. Daily consumption of pasture herbage varied in the experiment from 10.63 kg to 14.90 kg dry matter/animal in dependence on cycle and group. The intake of pasture herbage corresponded with the content of fibre in grass stand. The intake of dry matter from forage increased in both experimental groups compared with the control. Digestibility of nutrients in feed rations (table 4) varied from 57.90 to 68.90% in first group, from 56.35 to 65.65% in the second and from 58.70 to 67.66% in the third group; it decreased from the first to fourth grazing cycle in all groups. Differences in digestibiliy were at minimum between the groups within the cycles. The incorporation of rye-grass silage into the feed ration of grazed dairy cows decreased the intake of grass herbage, composition ratio diminished, fibre content in feed ration increased and digestibility of its nutrients diminished.
