Monitoring has two main roles. Firstly, it has a vital part to play in developing the scientific basis and secondly, monitoring is important for maintaining or enhancing the effectiveness of the EIA process. This type of monitoring is legislatively supported by the Act N 127/1994 on environmental impact assessment in the Slovak republic. Both, the Zilina water dam and Electric transmission line Varin - Sucany projects stay among the many other ones where monitoring has been implemented. Evaluation and comparasion of the success of monitoring having used for the projects mentioned above has shown a lot of defects and contrasts. Environmental Management Plan (EMP) being provided already before a project's design through it's construction until the operational phase of a project life and which co-ordinates environmental impact assessment with the project's approval, monitoring, a post project analysis and auditing activities, represents one of the answers for environmental problems of each project so that evaluation of them and making proposals will be more effective and successful
