It is considerably interesting to use Diaphanosoma sp. as a food organism, instead of brine shrimp nauplii, or as a supplementary food for grouper larvae, shrimp larvae and others. This study aims to find out the optimal salinity, phytoplankton as food, and temperature for the population growth of Diaphanosoma sp. some nutritional value, growth and life cycle of this cladoceran were also studied. Tetraselmis sp., Chaetoceros sp. and Chlorella sp. were suitable to use as food for diaphanosoma sp., under 0-20 ppt and they gave higher number of production when the temperature was between 29-33 deg C. The protein, lipid and ash contents of Diaphanosoma sp. fed with Chaetoceros sp. were 66.4 percent, 10.9 percent, and 10.1 percent, respectively, Whereas one of essential fatty acid, EPA (20:5 n-3) was 4.8 percent of total fatty acid. Total length of a new neonate was 433 micro m whereas adult size was 777 micro m. Under 25.0-27.5 deg C and 27.0-31.8 deg C, their life spans were observed at 10.6 days with 11.2 neonates and 6.8 days with 12.6 neonates, respectively. No sexual reproduction was detected.
