Diallel analysis of super sweet corn inbred lines cv. "Chakra" and "Thongdee"

Ten sweet corn inbred lines were found superior in quality and yield. Six of them were extracted from the population of "Chakra" while the other four were from "Thongdee". They were crossed in a diallel maner and 45 direct hybrids were tested. Most of the hybrids showed high eating quality of tenderness, brittleness, sweetness with thin pericarp. They were high yield, early maturity, tolerance to leaf diseases, stiff stalk, and well adapted to environmental condition. On the average, their plant height was 162 centimeters, ear size was 4 centimeters in diameter and 17.5 centimeters long with light yellow kernel. The best hybrid, Ck397-1-6-2 X Td131-1-3-9, expressed high specific combining ability (SCA) in palatability. Inbred Td70-3-4-4 gave highest general combining ability (GCA) in both quality and yield.
