Populational cytogenetics of 80 animals consisted of Gansu White pig (GWp, 23), Duroc (D, G), Hampshire (II, 6) and their crossbreds between DXGWp (22) and IIXGWp (23) were studied by using the karyotype analysis techniques. It was showed that 1.there were significant differences among GWps, D and II, and a little differences among GWp, Landrace and Russian Large White pig on the Characteristics of chromosomal complements; and 2.there was visible heterogeneity existed between each homologous autosomes of the crossbreds such as DXGWp and IIXGWp based on the comparisons between the length of two chromosomes within each pair of autosomes defined as the length ratio (LR, longer one/shorter one). The correlation coefficient between LR of the first pair of autosomes and lean rate was 0.28, LR and thickness of backfat -0.25, LR and rate of total fat -0.33, LR and total bone weight 0.22, LR and loss rate of water in muscle 0.25, LR and fineness of eyemuscle fibre. It seems that the LR number would became larger as the genetic distance between two parents of a crossbred was larger or as the heterotic vigor of the crossbred would be increased more obviously, so it is possible to forecast the heterotic vigor by using karyotype analysis on the heterogeneity of homologous autosomes in the selection of the optimum cross combinations in pig production and to explain the mechanism of the heterotic vigor using the theory of cytogenetics or molecular genetics.
