[Fruit and vegetable canning in Ukraine]
1999
Laznya, V.
In the 90-ties the Ukrainian canning industry experienced significant changes: 1986-1989 were the years with the highest production volumes of 3.9 billion of conventional cans produced. Since 1991 there is a trend for dramatic decrease in canning - by 5 times in 1997 as compared to 1990. Nowadays the sphere analyzed is in acute need of state support. In particular, food processing enterprises are expecting the following support: financial and credit support on account of widening the kinds of crediting; loyal taxation system aimed at developing the production; legal, investment and structural policies; boosting the development of all forms of ownership and economic management; protectionism as to the exports of Ukrainian products; revealing the ways of reviving traditional markets and entering new external markets. The fruit and vegetable sub-complex is to satisfy domestic market demand in competitive products and to provide their exports in economically substantiated structure and volumes. The article deals with the ways of reforming the branch. As the nature of market economies supposes developing production of the products which are in demand and thus provides the proper level of profitability to enterprises, the branch needs to be significantly reoriented. Enterprises' material and technical base should be renovated and strengthened; the production should be modernized. Processing enterprises should establish external relations. Rising in effectiveness of growing fruit and vegetables should take place on account of growers cooperation. Producers should provide conducting marketing studies to effectively function in market conditions
