Experiment with leek (Allium porrum L.) was carried out in the field conditions, on a cambic soil. The aim of the experiment was to establish relationships among nitrogen uptake, leaf area index and light interception of leek crop. Nitrogen fertilizer, urea, was applied in amount of 250 kg N/ha: 125 kg N/ha before transplanting and 125 kg N/ha after transplanting. This way of nitrogen fertilizer applying had a great influence on leaf are development, dry matter production and nitrogen uptake. Increment of these parameters directly or indirectly had a great effect on increment of leaf area index and light interception of leek crop.
