Pesticide residue monitoring in Yugoslavia

The paper discusses some major procedures in detecting and estimating pesticide residues in food. Both international and national approaches to pesticide residue estimation are given. Current pesticide residue estimation in Yugoslavia is shown. The development of a system of pesticide residue control is discussed from the standpoint of: a) residue trial; b) farm production control; c) regulatory control; d) specific products control (health food and organic food). In addition, the paper discusses pesticide residue analysis in Yugoslavia over the period 1989-1999 according to the above given segments in the procedure of pesticide residue control system. Eventually recommendations aimed at enhancing current pesticide residue monitoring programs are given with the objective of minimizing the risk to public health.
