In 1998 the Yugoslav Commission for Varietal Approval released 6 winter wheat cultivars developed at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. The paper gives a review of the characteristics of the cultivars Milena, Gracija, Sirena, Sofija, Delta and Sonja. These cultivars confirm that a high yield potential, good to excellent technological quality, resistance to leaf rust (Puccinia recondita tritici), powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis) and the resistance to lodging and low temperature may be combined into a single cultivar by the simple, three-way, successive, and multiple crossing of genetically divergent and intensive parents.
