[Study of the 2, 3, 7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxine absorption mechanism by Cucurbita pepo L.] | Etude du mecanisme d'absorption de la 2, 3, 7, 8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxine par Cucurbita pepo L.

Dioxins, in a broad sense, are hydrophobic organic pollutants with high accumulation abilities in our environment. It is necessary to manage risk associated with these molecules in the frame of a long term exposition for the population. Measures to take are emissions reduction, but also environmental transports limitation. On the contrary to many other organic pollutants, there still not exist an effective and low cost technique to remediate dioxins. Phytoremediation is a very promising technique, but is still limitated by pollutant availability for plants. The aim of this research is a better understanding of how zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) is able to absorb 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin and the evaluation of its potential applications. It emerges that a phytoextraction technique of this soil pollutant could be considered. Zucchini could also be used for the bioindication of contamination in both air and soil.
