The consumption of energy by the pressing of great prismatic and cylindrical bales at harvest of fodder

We followed the fuel consumption of the tractor ZETOR 12045 during the pressing and packaging of different types of fodder (first and second cut hays, haylage). The fodder was packed into cylindrical or prismatic bales or wrapped in a foil. Comparing the packaging of cylindrical bales with the prismatic ones, the fuel consumption per cube meter of reaped fodder is almost the same. The fuel consumption differs according to the different moisture contents of the forage (first cut hay 12 %, haylage 31.5 % and second cut hay 9.2 %).
