The phylogeny of Middle American cichlid fishes (Cichlidae)

A preliminary study of phylogeny of Middle American cichlids of the Heroine tribe based on molecular data (Cytochrome b gene, 16S rRNA sequences), morphology, ecology and ethology is presented. Results are summarized in a complex cladogram. Significant relationships are illustrated by thick solid lines. Some conclusions are surprising but not final, the study continues and therefore no changes are recommended in nomenclature at present.
