Size of beef herds is an important factor which influences the system of breeding. 50-80 cows is the optimal size of purebred herds. Commercial herds of beef cattle (crossbred) in the marginal areas have size about 150-200 cows with 4-5 sires. Strip grazing should run in one or two areas. Size of the strip results from size of herd (0.9-1.5 ha per adult animal). Improvement of easy calving and other maternal attributes is basic breeding arrangement in the creation of maternal herds. Suitable breeds for parental position in final crossbreeding are Charolaise, Limousine, Blond d`Aquitaine, Piedmontese, Belgian Blue and Beef Simmental.
