[Maize harvesting date for LKS]
2001
Machacova, E. | Loucka, R. | Tyrolova, Y. (Vyzkumny Ustav Zivocisne Vyroby, Prague-Uhrineves (Czech Republic))
The aim of these field trials was to compare the nutritional value of 35 hybrid maize cobs (FAO classes from 210 to 360) harvested on 2 different dates (28 August and 19 September 2000) and used for maize cob silage production by LKS method. Nutrient concentrations are variably affected by the maturity class and the harvest date. A latest harvest date is recommended for the hybrids from late-maturity groups as the concentration of net energy for lactation increases between the 2 dates with increasing FAO class number. On the contrary, the PDI concentration decreases if the maize cobs from early groups are harvested later. The fibre concentration decreases (10 % in average) between the 2 dates independently of the maturity group.
