Zajac, T. | Szmigiel, A. (Agricultural Univ., Krakow (Poland). (Dept. of Plant Production)
In 1994-1996 investigations concerning the yield level of fresh and dry mass of alfalfa grown in pure stand and in mixture with 3, 4 and 6 other species were conducted. Relationship between the yield, leave area index and dry mass content was also determined using statistical program "Statistica". During the investigated years significant differences in dry mass yield with regard to the species and to the method of sowing (pure stand and mixture) were observed. In all cuts the yield of mixtures was very high and significantly exceeded productivity of all species grown individually. Highly productive legume species such as alfalfa and red clover dominated in botanical composition of mixtures.
