2001

To investigate the genetic and environmental variation of grain quality characteristics of oat and malting barley a field experiments were carried out in 1999-2000 at the Jogeva PBI in Estonia. As a result of these trials, the protein content, 1000 kernel weight, grading and husk content of oat showed a very wide range of genetic variation due to genetically diverse material tested. Grading and germination showed the high genetic variability in malting barley trial. The variation of protein content and 1000 kernel weight of barley remained lower. There was a considerable variation of grain quality characteristics of oat and malting barley due to different climatic conditions in 1999 and 2000
