Production in many cattle farms in Estonia must be reconstructed according to the demands of the EU. Contemporary technologies of milk production suppose keeping cows on loose housing. This determines reconstruction of cattle houses. Many different demands must be taken into account. Choosing the technology, the characteristics of the cattle must be taken into account. Planning the reconstruction, we must look at the distance between the carrying structures. Standard project TP 801-254, where the distance between the carrying structures is 9+4+9 m, is often used in Estonia. The necessary area for one animal and the number of animals that could be held in the cattle house is important. The most expediency is variant number 7 (5+= rows), with 6.55 m (2) area per cow. The number of places for animals, 384, is the largest in the variant when feeding of animals is organized outside, in which case the whole area per animal will be 10.17 m (2)
