Prevalence of Yersinia enteroculitica in water and dairy plant environment
1999
Kushal, R. | Anand, S.K.(National Dairy Research Institute, Dairy Microbiology Division, Karnal (India)).
Water and air samples from Cattle Yard, Experimental Dairy Plant and Model Dairy Plant were screened for the prevalence of Yersinia enterocolitica. The results indicated that water samples from Cattle yard and Experimental Dairy showed the complete absence of Yersinia. Although 2 of the 5 water samples taken from Model Dairy Plant (MDP) resulted in the presumptive detection of Yersinia colonies on CIN agar plates, none of the isolates were identified as Yersinia enterocolitica on the basis of further biochemical characterization. Similarly, one air samples each of Cattle Yard and MDP were positive on selective agar, however, the isolates from both these samples were also not identified as Yersinia on biochemical characterisation.
