A new soybean cultivar "Hatayutaka", with high suitability for tofu processing and wide adaptability

A new soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivar "Hatayutaka", registered as "Soybean Norin 113" was developed at Tohoku National Agricultural Experiment Station in 1999. It was selected from a cross between "Suzuyutaka" and "Enrei" to obtain a cultivar resistant to soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and showing a high yielding ability over a wide area. It is classified into group III based on the date of maturity. "Hatayutaka" is characterized by purple flowers, gray pubescence, broad leaflets and brown pods at maturity. It has a slightly long stem with determinate growth. It is resistant to soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines Ichinohe) and SMV. It shows a high productivity in both upland and drained paddy fields. The seeds of "Hatayutaka" are large, dull whitish yellow with yellow hila. Since the protein content of "Hatayutaka" is higher than that of "Suzuyutaka" and "Tachinagaha", it is more suitable for Tofu processing than those cultivars. It shows a high productivity and wide adaptability in the southern parts of Tohoku district, northern parts of Kanto district and Hokuriku district. "Hatayutaka" is released as a new recommended cultivar from Ibaraki prefecture in 1999 suitable for fields contaminated with soybean cyst nematode
