Hydraulic model study on runup of Tsunami flowing over a detached breakwater

The object of this investigation is to estimate viability of coastal protection facilities, fishing port construction and so on against runup of tsunami. As the first step, a hydraulic experiment on a detached breakwater and with no structure was carried out. Sea bottom slope was 1/30. Offshore distance, slope of runup surface and characteristics of tsunami were varied. Detached break waters were of permeable. impermeable and continuous impermeable varieties. As a result of the experiment, the following correlations were clarified. 1) The effect of opening width and overflow were larger than of permeability on construction. 2) The figure of maximum runup height in longshore direction was related to wave diffraction by construction. 3) Surface elevation around shoreline was influenced by construction and slope of runup surface mainly
