The easy determination of a few chemical properties of livestock manure compost by near infared spectroscopy

The possibility of the analysis of total carbon, total nitrogen, crude ash content and the amounts of nitrogen mineralization under both upland and paddy soil conditions in livestock manure compost by using near infared spectroscopy were examined. 124 samples were collected from livestock farmers in Aichi prefecture. Thirty eight samples among them were of poultry manure compost, 11 samples were from swine, 66 samples were from cattle and 9 samples were mixed manure from different livestock kinds or manure from obscure livestock. The first derivative treatment of the spectra had not only a low standard error of prediction (SEP) but also a high correlation coefficients (reg) between the predicted values by near infared spectroscopy and the chemically. analyzed values. Both the reg and SEP between the predicted values by near infared spectroscopy, which were treated by first derivative of spectra, and chemically analyzed values were as follows; T-C: reg 0.974, SEP 1.773, T-N: reg 0.954, SEP 0.286, C-Ash: reg 0.943, SEP 4.167, nitrogen mineralization under upland soil condition: reg 0.847, SEP 0.893, nitrogen mineralization under paddy soil condition: reg 0.893, SEP 1.608. The above results indicate that the determination of a few chemical properties of livestock manure compost by near infared spectroscopy is useful
