This study was carried out in order to choose a suitable plastic film pouch packing for shipping fruits at an average temperature in June. Each 1 kg fruit was seal-packaged in several kinds of permeable plastic film pouches, with ethylene removing agents, and then the yellowing and gas injuries of the fruits such as browning and pitting injury caused by gas conditions in the film pouch were examined at room temperature. When fruits were seal-packaged in several permeable plastic film pouches, the atmosphere in the pouches was over 3-4% O2 and 15% CO2, respectively. When fruits were seal-packaged in other non-permeable film pouches, the concentration of O2 was about 2%, but the concentration of CO2 was different depending on the kind of film. For example, over 20% CO2 in polyethylene film pouches and 10% CO2 in Polymethylpenten film. Gas injuries to the fruit were small in permeable plastic film pouches during seal-packaging, and the fruits ripened normally such as fruit yellowing and fruit softening. Thus, the proper material to prolong the freshness of Japanese Apricot fruits was discovered to be permeable plastic film which had permeability of 15,000 cc O2/square-meter.atm.24hr
