Characteristics of fatness of the aerial tuber produced from virus-free jinenjo (Dioscorea japonica Thunb.)

The aerial tuber, which was got from the virus-free stock of a jinenjo, cultivated in the net inside for one year, and the characteristic of its fatness and validity as a seed potato were researched. We obtained 2.7 potatoes from a middle size aerial tuber (0.43g of mean weight 6 to 10mm of the diameter) and 1.9 potatoes from a large size aerial tuber (1.12g of mean weight, over 10mm of the diameter) by cultivating them for one year. The smaller more than one potato was formed as much as aerial tuber was small. 50 to 100g one-year potatoes were useful as seed potatoes, because bigger and more marketable potatoes could be produced by cultivating them. They increased 1.3-fold from middle size aerial tuber and 1.7-fold from large size one, and we could get more seed potatoes than the number of aerial tubers. It could think that it was necessary to control light weight one-year potato formation to increase the number of the seed potato which were useful
