Amount of oil in oats

In the investigations on the oil content in oats varieties "Mara" and "Laima" grown in Latvia were used. Oil was extracted with hexane. The determination of free oil content was performed by means of the Sockslet apparatus. It was found that the amount of oil decreased using izopropanol as solvent: depending on the variety it was from 6.01% to 7.61%. The method of obtaining oat oil was worked out in the laboratory. Using the method approximately 33% of the oil amount in oat crop can be obtained.
