Growth hormonal activities of the methanol extracts of selected seaweed species

Nine selected species of seaweeds collected from Bolinao, Pangasinan [Philippines] were extracted using methanol. The extracts were concentrated in a rotary evaporator. The yields (concentrated extracts) ranged from 50 ml to 160 ml and the solid contents ranged from 0.49 g to 2.64 g. Several dilutions (1000, 2000, and 4000 ppm with respect to solid content) of each extract were prepared and tested for gibberellin and auxin-like activities. The extracts exhibited between 11.62 mcg to 42.30 mcg gibberellin-like activity and 0.14 mcg to 18.12 mcg auxin-like activity per gram of seaweed
