Milk protein band profiles of 13 domestic buffaloes and 9 dairy cattle from UPLB [University of the Philippines Los Banos], Laguna were examined using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)-PAGE to demonstrate milk protein variation and characterize their band patterns. Simultaneous electrophoresis of whole milk samples by both methods demonstrated polymorphism between the two animal groups and among animals in each group. Using SDS-PAGE, milk protein variation was evident within the two groups, but cattle exhibited greater variation. Characteristic band patterns differing in concentration and mobility also distinguished buffaloes from cattle electrophoretically
