The present study is concerned with the impact of tubewell irrigation on the cropping pattern, cropping intensity, input use, crop productivity and livestock keeping in the southern part of the district Peshawar. The data were collected through a household level survey of farmers in the area. Respondents included only those farmers who were beneficiaries of the ADBP loaning scheme for the tubewell installation. Thus, the study was based on the entire 48 respondents (beneficiaries) of the said scheme, the complete population since 1994. The main aim of the study was to compare the situation before and after the installation of tubewell. The findings indicate that installation of tubewells has not changed the cropping pattern of the area, rather the allocation to high earning crops and cropping intensity increased. The major reason behind no change in the cropping pattern of the area farmers' was the partial availability of canal water. However, on overall basis the number of livestock, input use and .crop productivity of the tubewell beneficiaries increased significantly. Keeping in view the results of this study it is recommended that the scheme should be allocated more resources for its enhanced implementation in the country.
